Project Overview
Located in Shenton Park, this project transforms an existing character residence through a carefully considered extension that establishes a clear relationship between heritage and contemporary design. The original home is retained and refined, while a new two-storey addition introduces a distinct architectural language that redefines the way the home is lived in.
The extension is conceived as a contrasting yet complementary form, using a restrained palette of masonry, concrete and timber to create a layered and textural environment. A sculptural staircase forms the centre of the plan, acting as both a functional element and a defining architectural feature, while large openings and carefully framed views strengthen the connection between interior spaces and the surrounding landscape. Arched openings and subtle geometric gestures soften the built form, introducing moments of detail and visual interest throughout.
The home is designed to prioritise light, flow and flexibility for everyday living. Open-plan living areas extend seamlessly to outdoor entertaining spaces, creating a strong indoor-outdoor relationship, while skylights and vertical voids draw natural light deep into the interior. Layered floor levels and defined zones provide variation within the plan, supporting both shared and private living. The result is a balanced composition of old and new, creating a home that is both highly functional and architecturally expressive.
