Project Overview
Located in Shenton Park, this project involves the transformation of a 1920s character home through refurbishment and a contemporary two-storey extension. The design establishes a clear relationship between old and new, retaining the original dwelling while introducing a bold, sculptural addition that redefines the home for modern family living.
The extension is conceived as a distinct yet connected volume, with a focus on material contrast and spatial clarity. A restrained palette of brick, concrete and timber creates a textural, durable environment, allowing the architecture to take precedence. At the centre of the plan, a sculptural staircase acts as both a functional element and a defining feature, drawing light deep into the interior and organising the surrounding living spaces. Large openings and carefully positioned glazing enhance the connection between interior and exterior, activating both the garden and pool areas.
The home is designed around flexibility, light and everyday use. Open-plan living areas extend seamlessly to outdoor spaces, supporting a strong indoor-outdoor relationship suited to family life. Layered floor levels and defined zones provide variation within the plan, while skylights and vertical voids introduce natural light throughout. The result is a considered balance of heritage and contemporary design, creating a home that is both highly functional and architecturally expressive.
